Code: EC Full Marks: 60 Duration: 2 Hours Figures at the right hand margin indicate marks. All parts of a question should be answered at one place. Answer ALL the questions. Q.No. Marks 1. (a) Discuss about different control strategies used in automatic process control. Compare the advantages and disadvantages of each one. 10 (b) The forward path transfer function of a unity feedback control system is 2 given by G ( s ) = . Obtain an expression for unit step response of the s ( s + 3) system. 10 2. (a) Obtain the transfer function between the forcing function inlet temperature and responding variable outlet temperature of process fluid for a first-order adiabatic thermal process. What is the physical significance of the process time constant? 10 (b) Determine the response of a first-order process without dead time to two different types of forcing functions (i) Ramp function (ii) Sinusoidal function. What is the amplitude ratio in second case? 10 3. With necessary assumptions, develop the mathematical model for two tanks in series configuration where the levels in both the tanks affect each other. Obtain the transfer function between level of liquid in second tank to the inlet flow as well as pump flow connected to the first tank without skipping any step.
