Analysis of Planar Array Antenna with Mutual Coupling and Optimization Using PSO.
A 3X5 planar array of dipoles is analyzed taking mutual coupling into account. Multi-objective fitness function considering the Directivity (D), Half Power Beam Width (HPBW) and Front to Side Lobe Level (FSLL) of the antenna is examined and the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm is employed to optimize the planar array using the obtained fitness value. The array is simulated with self developed MOM structure code using MATLAB (7.8.0) and verified using MININEC (14.0) software package. Finally, the optimized results are compared with different types of Yagi-Uda array, optimized using various optimization techniques, to evaluate the performance of the planar array.Comparative Study of PSO and Cuckoo Search for Optimization of 3X5 Planar Array Antenna Considering Mutual Coupling.
Two noble methods have been analyzed for optimization of planar array antenna. One of them is Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and other one is recently developed Cuckoo Search (CS). A comparative study is made between two optimization techniques in terms antenna output characteristics and time taken for convergence. While analyzing the planar array antenna mutual coupling has been taken in to account which is very essential from application point of view. MATLAB is used for design and optimization of array antenna. After optimization, the verification is conducted through MININEC software. The results obtained from both the approaches, shows that each algorithm has its own charm and limitation. But, both are very useful optimization technique for designing planar array antenna for desired target specification.
